9/12/2023 0 Comments Half life alyx combine![]() Just like in Chapter 7 of Alyx’s campaign, you’ll lead this blind monster astray by chucking bottles and bricks across the map in an effort to distract and misdirect him using sound. That’s right, Jeff is back, baby, and he’s up to the same old tricks. It’s a similar trick used in the main campaign and makes this custom map feel quite thought out.Ībout halfway through the map - spoiler warning for those who want to play it fresh themselves - you’ll encounter a familiar foe from the main Alyx campaign. In terms of map layout, you’ll often see the next objective before you can reach it, prompting you to look for ways to get there. That footage should give you an idea of the level of polish we’re dealing with here - not only does the map feel aesthetically in line with most of the Alyx campaign, but it employs a few thoughtful design tricks as well. If you want to get a feel for the map, you can check out the first five minutes in the video embedded below. While playing as a Combine soldier mixes things up a bit, it ultimately makes little difference to the gameplay - you’ll still be using the gravity gloves and the same weapons, alongside the multi-tool to solve puzzles, just with a few fellow Combine soldiers as back-up. ![]() Released almost a year ago, this is a custom map for Half-Life: Alyx that gives you about 30-40 minutes of content in a similar fashion to the main campaign. Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t played Half-Life: Alyx’s main campaign. I didn't buy VR for Half Life, but I might consider it for Bioshock.Goon Squad, a custom map by Steam Workshop user G Kaf, provides Half-Life: Alyx players a new experience playing as a Combine soldier accompanied by two Combine buddies, trying to make it out of a quarantined sewerage system. Just imagine it - you could plasmids off at Big Daddies as if you were right there. It also shows just how badly we need a Bioshock VR title. Another mod on the Steam Workshop introduces Alyx to the terrifying corridors of PT, the demo for Hideo Kojima's doomed Silent Hill game.Įither way, Return to Rapture is a fantastic demonstration of what's possible when modders are given the right tools and the right platform. This isn't the first time modders have brought other game worlds into the realm of Half-Life. Its tight, dimly lit corridors are suffocating, and the general state of Alyx's surroundings is pretty bad. While this recreation of Rapture isn't perfect, it certainly captures the overall vibe of the underwater city. Sadly, players won't be able to use plasmids themselves, but no worries, Alyx still has her gravity gloves and plenty of firepower to take out any Combine trying to get their hands on Rapture's sunken treasure. Alyx has to head down there and prevent the invaders from getting their hands on plasmids like target dummy and sonic boom, you know, the really deadly ones. ![]() In Return to Rapture, the Combine discover the underwater dystopia after its fall to ruin and the powerful plasmids it hides. This isn't some aesthetic mod either, there is a full-on story, working vita chambers, audio logs and even the totally not annoying or nightmare-inducing circus of value vending machines. The mod, titled Return to Raptureby wim.buytaert.1988, places Alyx in a bathysphere destined for Andrew Ryan's city. A modder has brought the world of Half-Life: Alyx somewhere under the sea, combining the worlds of Half-Life and Bioshock in one strange story. It's certainly not a crossover anyone was asking for, but nobody's going to be upset about it either.
